Restauration and the Mail – in 2025
Restauration Restauration and the mail – a new story in 2025
SS Restauration probably didn’t carry any mail in 1825 — but in 2025, she did.
During the “Second Crossing” on the return voyage, the ship sailed New York City – Stavanger carrying postcards home from North America, a symbolic echo of the America letters that accompanied the emigration across the Atlantic.
We honor the Christmas cards and letters filled with longing and hope, and we are proud to be part of the Norwegian Postal Service’s anniversary stamp and to highlight the role of the mail in emigration history.
Aboard the vessel were 83 Christmas cards and one Christmas letter, all stamped differently with Restauration’s ship stamp.
This time as well, the mail must be forwarded in the usual way.
