Over One Million Norwegian Kroner Raised for Children and Families in Crisis
The sailors and the Restauration Friends Association, in collaboration with SOS-barnebyer (SOS Children’s Villages), have raised 1,002,025 Norwegian kroner (USD 100 000) through the campaign “Broken Dreams – A Light of Hope” !
The donation was presented on November 18 during a packed event in Stavanger, Norway.
The fundraising effort was one of several key goals of the anniversary voyage, as the historic emigrant vessel Restauration crossed the Atlantic once again—200 years after the first Norwegian emigration.
The voyage’s High Patron, Liv Ullmann, has played a crucial role in elevating the message of hope and support for children and families in crisis.
- “The similarities between the emigrants of the past and today’s refugees remind us of our shared humanity,” says sailor and initiator in the Restauration Friends Association, Halvor Håvarstein.
During the event, Sr. Bikers—who cycled from Chicago to New York City and met Restauration upon arrival—also shared stories from their journey and their own contributions to the campaign.
The funds will support SOS-barnebyer (SOS Children’s Villages) work to ensure that children and families affected by war and conflict receive safety, care, and protection.
- “The engagement surrounding the voyage shows that solidarity is strong,” says Turid Weisser from SOS-barnebyer. “Thanks to everyone in Norway and North America who contributed, more children can now have hope for a safer future.”
