The Mayor’s Reception for the Restauration Sailors
The Mayor of Stavanger hosted a reception for the sailors.
Thank you very much for a warm, dignified, and memorable reception on January 16, 2026, honoring the sailors who were part of Restauration’s historic 2025 voyage from Stavanger to New York.
It meant a great deal that Mayor Tormod Wilson Losnedal, wearing the mayoral chain on behalf of all the citizens of Stavanger, welcomed the crew together with Deputy Mayor Henrik Halleland, Project Manager Knud Helge Robberstad, and a representative from the Mayor’s communications office.
The traditional storm soup that was served, the speeches, and the setting in the maritime banquet halls of the Stavanger Seamen’s Association / Stavanger Søemandsforening gave the gathering a dignified atmosphere and a strong sense of historical significance.
This voyage has been demanding, long, and required great commitment—but above all, it has been meaningful.
The recognition from the city, the municipality, and our supporters is an important reminder of why the voyage was undertaken: to raise awareness of the history of emigration, including among younger generations; to honor those who left; and at the same time to highlight new perspectives and socially relevant issues in 2025.

The painting of the ship is made using tar from Tysvær, the home of Cleng Peerson, burned on Karmøy—where the copper for the Statue of Liberty in New Yort City originated.
