Skudefestivalen – Born Beneath the Deck of Restauration
When art tells the story of a homeland left behind
Friday July 3 at 4:00 PM, Råseglarhuset, (2nd floor)
(Free admission – Address: Søragadå 1, N-4280 Skudeneshavn by the quay where Restauration is docked during the festival Skudefestivalen.)
An interactive pop-up exhibition where visitors can meet and hold the artwork “Loam Margaret,” which unexpectedly revealed itself to an unsuspecting crew during the sloop Restauration’s anniversary voyage from Stavanger (Norway) to New York City in 2025.
Meet visual artist Jane Sverdrupsen**, a PhD candidate at the University of Bergen, who will share insights into the creation of the sculpture. In addition to physically crossing the Atlantic, the work seeks to engage with the historical significance of Norwegian emigration through its form and use of materials rooted in Rogaland’s industrial heritage.
“Loam Margaret” is an artistic interpretation of what Margaret Allen—born during the original 1825 voyage—might have looked like. More importantly, it serves as both a physical and metaphorical vessel for the homeland the emigrants left behind.
Welcome!
